A judge's disagreement with the majority opinion of a court. Appellate court cases are heard by a panel of judges, which can vary in number depending on the jurisdiction. A judge who disagrees with a majority’s ruling will often write a dissenting opinion explaining his or her reason for disagreement.

  • Clashes as Zelaya attempts return: A child has been killed and several people injured at the airport in the Honduran capital as security forces clashed with supporters anticipating the return of Manuel Zelaya, the ousted president. Al Jazeera's Mariana Sanchez, reporting from the airport in Tegucigalpa, said a child around 10-12-years-ol d had been killed and several people injured as troops used what appeared to be live bullets against protesters. Honduran emergency services confirmed on Sunday that a child had been killed and a Red Cross spokesman said it was treating about 30 people for injuries.

  • Honduras under curfew after coup: Roberto Micheletti, the parliamentary speaker until Sunday when he was sworn in as Zelaya's replacement, told a news conference that the curfew would run from 9pm (03:00 GMT) to 6am on Sunday and Monday...The protesters were calling for the reinstatement of Zelaya, who was taken by soldiers from his home while still in his pyjamas on Sunday, and sent to Costa Rica after he tried to carry out a referendum to extend his term in office.
